Scooter Bars: FAQs
1. What is the difference between standard and oversized scooter bars?
In pro scootering, Standard and Oversized refers to the bar diameter. This can refer to the outer and Internal diameter of the bars. The type of diameter of the bar usually relates the material it is made from.
These are the different variations and their diameters:
S/S- Standard inner (28.7mm) and Standard outer (31.8mm) Chromoly/steel
S/O- Standard inner (28.7mm) and Oversized outer(34.9mm) Aluminium bars
O/O- Oversized inner (31.8mm) and oversized outer (34.9mm) Chromoly/steel & Titanium
2. What is a slit on a scooter bar? Slit/no slit?
A scooter bar that comes ready-to-use with a slit are designed to fit onto an IHC or HIC systems (read more about compression systems here). Bars with a slit will fit with a 2 or 4 Bolt Clamp and tend to be good. Bars with no Slit are used with an SCS system. You can use bars with slit in SCS though they require cutting off the slit or inserting a SCS bar adapter or oversize SCS bar adapter.
3. What are better, aluminium or steel scooter bars?
It depends on your riding style, skill level, and budget. Aluminium bars are a good ‘all-rounder’ and typically the most popular type of bars as they are lighter than chromoly, and less expensive than other lightweight bars (such as titanium scooter bars).
4. What height should my scooter bar be?
Your scooter bar should sit somewhere between your thigh and hip (or belly-button and waistband) for solid balance and control of your scooter.
5. What width should my scooter bar be?
Your scooter bar should feel comfortable and be held approximately at shoulder width or slightly wider.
Height and width of bar are very preferential thing and vary rider to rider.
6. Other things to consider:
Your fork & compression system are very important to your choice of bar, so always check that your bars work with your fork/compression/clamp system before purchase.
